Community HiFi fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of listening to the sonic environment. We are committed to increasing awareness of the positive impact soundscapes have on our well-being and advocating for the creation and preservation of beneficial and vanishing soundscapes. For too long, conversations about our surroundings have focused only on what we can see, overlooking how sound influences our stress, sense of safety, and feelings of belonging. We meet people where they are, honor diverse perspectives on how sound carries cultural meaning and personal memory, and inspire action through practical tools for sonic stewardship. We envision a world where every community values its soundscape as deeply as its green spaces, and where the sounds that bring us peace and connection are cherished and protected. Together, we can build a future where listening becomes an act of care, discovery, and connection.

Community HiFi aspires to lead a global movement toward mindful listening and sonic well-being, fostering deeper connections between people and sound. We seek a future where every individual can enjoy the serenity, joy, and health that come from nurturing sonic environments.
Our Founder - Kenya Williams, PhD
Kenya Williams started Community HiFi because he believes something simple and powerful: the sounds around us matter. Not just music, but everything. The hum of a neighborhood park. The quiet of an open field. The way a city street can feel chaotic or calming, depending on what you hear. Kenya has spent his career asking why we pay so much attention to how our spaces look, yet so little to how they sound.
He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Studies and Urban Planning, and his research focused on how the soundscape and acoustic ecology of cities and public spaces affect how people feel and connect within their communities. He is also the founder of Hush Soundscape Planning and Design, which helps cities and organizations create healthier, more welcoming sonic environments. Since 1997, he has run Adore Recordings, a record label dedicated to the love of sound and music in all its forms.
But what drives Kenya most is access. He founded Community HiFi with the conviction that every person, in every neighborhood, deserves to experience a sound environment that supports their health, well-being, and sense of belonging. Whether he is working with city planners, partnering with schools, or guiding someone through their first focused listening experience outdoors, his goal remains the same: to help people slow down, tune in, and discover the world through their ears.
